ASP.NET 3.5 – Integrating the AJAX Extension 1.0

ASP.NET 2.0 was finally released to the public last 2005. It was undoubtedly the year of AJAX. Everyone is redesigning or creating another framework that will accommodate AJAX. Microsoft Corporation has incorporated the AJAX in their ASP.NET 2.0. It was a major stride for the 2.0 as they included the usability of AJAX. Before its release there was obviously no AJAX in the .NET framework and the progressive web developers are silently demanding the inclusion of the technique. It might be an obvious move by Microsoft or giving in to the wish of the developers, either way we all got what we ask for. With the addition of an update for Visual Studio, there was no stopping AJAX in ASP.NET 2.0 After two years of hiatus, ASP.NET is again here with the new update. Recently it didn’t come out with version 3.0 rather with a version 3.5. If you’re looking for a 3.0, you shouldn’t since there was no 3.0 in the first place. The 3.5 jump was to match the .NET framework to avoid confusion. No need to panic thinking that you missed the next big update. So now we have ASP.NET 3.5. Looking closely on the 3.5 release, other functionality is the same. In fact, if you don’t use the 3.5 in a very extensive manner, you won’t notice anything at all. But there’s just one update that you have to consider: Last January 2007, Microsoft has released the ASP.NET AJAX extension 1.0. This update was to answer some questions if there are other things that you can do with AJAX in the 2.0. What you’ll just have are the same functionality that compared to other updates such as Google, and Adobe, it’s not as updated as the mentioned software. If you’ve missed those extensions, you don’t have to download them separately. Now you can download the extension 1.0 together with the ASP.NET 3.5. This version beefed up AJAX by virtue of the Extensions 1.0. If you’re looking for other updates other than adding the update that was released last January automatically, there are some changes that you’ll eventually notice. One of the notable changes or additions in the version 3.5 is closely linked to the assembly-system.web.extensions. This extension caps almost all of the updates of in ASP.NET. You’ll find updates on these extensions that will cater the AJAX server. New controls are also introduced to the ASP.NET. UpdatePanel, ScriptManager, ListView and DataPager controls are some of the latest additions and have experienced changes. Compatibility wise, you can still use your 2.0 in your 3.5. The visual studio 2005 can also cater to the brand new updates. The cool thing about 3.5 is you can actually disable the autochanges to cater to the 3.5 framework. Since 3.5 is AJAX intensive you might find your program changed to fit to the framework. All you need to do is to prevent it is run the DisableAjaxPolicy program. That’s another first in the 3.5 because of the update in your AJAX. Get them all in one shot when you get the ASP.NET 3.5 update. ASP.NET 3.5 Beta AJAX Extension 1.0
