AJAX-TipsAjax In Chinese Websites
China has a population of more than 1 billion - making them the most populous country in the world. The internet users in the same country have already reached the hundredth million mark a very long time ago. An estimate says that almost 220 million in the country uses the internet for various reasons. That's why the big names in the internet world are expanding to China.
Since China has a different set language compared to US and UK markets, internet companies have to change their format to cater to the Chinese users. If they can just corner as little as 5% of the marker, that small percentage already translates to millions of hits to a particular website.
One of the biggest names in China is Netease.com. The company owns three of the most popular websites in China: 163.com, 126.com and Yeah.net. 163.com is a search website while 126.com and Yeah.net is a free e-mail service.
Combining these three websites, Netease is being accessed by 70% of the Chinese users. Coming in second are Yahoo China and Google. Yahoo China used to have commanding lead in search use because of the name's familiarity but since the company launched 163.com, Netease has clearly become the leader in the Chinese internet market.
Just recently, Netease upgraded their services to Chinese users. Launched in their site Yeah.net, users of yeah.net will enjoy unlimited memory storage. Yeah.net uses the popular Ajax technology much like the China's Yahoo. Users will be able to enjoy the unlimited storage plus the latest Ajax technology in their e-mails.
Even though Ajax is more popularly used by Google in most of their services, you can easily see Yeah.net's e-mail uses the same technology. The frame easily updates itself with out changing the whole page. Netease.com's biggest competitor is Yahoo China's e-mail service.
Even though Netease is accessed by more than half of the country, their e-mail service is far from popular. With unlimited service and cool interface, Netease hopes it could get more users with their unlimited e-mail.
As of this writing, Yahoo China doesn't offer the unlimited e-mail service and Google users have to be content with 3GB memory and rising. Although the memory capacity is already good as it is, the ability to offer more is definitely the money maker among Chinese users.
The company’s email service is called the Free Green Mailbox. Not because it’s environmentally friendly but because the interface is green. It uses simple but highly effective email much like Gmail. This is good news for Ajax developers since it goes to show that the technology adapted by Google is widely adopted by various internet companies. Google has clearly shown the efficiency of the product.
If you can understand Chinese, check out these websites and see what these websites has to offer. Although US IPs on these sites are slow to load, the e-mail service is surprisingly fast. With the number of Chinese users, Ajax will definitely flourish.
Even though in our end, we can make Ajax happen, China’s market for internet users is still increasing. It’s an opportunity for developers to create more programs and flourish in the industry of web development.
