Ajax and Iphone 2.0

Ajax has been long glorified as the next step for web development and this fact has been backed up by many developers and software companies worldwide. Any application that you see today aims to retool itself as an Ajax based application.

Every software development tool also aims to help the developers build an Ajax based application and the number of frameworks developed to build Ajax without the need to code JavaScript is increasing everyday.

Even Microsoft wants to have a piece of Ajax’s popularity by offering an alternate to Ajax (ARAX). They should since Ajax is not just fad for developers but the sign that the next wave of websites and applications is coming.

The power of Ajax was even pushed further when the iPhone was introduced to the market for almost a year ago. This handy mobile phone signaled that new and better models for mobile phone is coming – specifically the touch screen interface on iPhone. This feature in iPhone has been replicated by other mobile phones but what really made iPhone is different is its WiFi capabilities and handling of regular websites especially an Ajax based website. Steve Jobs even said that Ajax is essentially in iPhone which justifies its remarkable capabilities.

But there is certainly a downside for the iPhone. Although it has great capabilities, Steve Jobs became a little bit more protective with this application because it did not allow developers build applications that could be installed in the iPhone. That is why Jailbroken iPhones have become the favorite stage of developers to test their capabilities in iPhone.

The other way around is to build an Ajax based website so that it could be accessed online. But developers can’t do that freely since Apple will have to control the official tools to protect users from attacks by accessing different websites.

Of course, Apple heard all the clamoring of developers worldwide. In January, Steve Jobs gave us a glimpse of the SDK that will be used to build a tool that could be installed in iPhone. The full details of the SDK were then released a few days ago during the WWDC or the Apple Worldwide Developers Convention in San Francisco.

The SDK basically helps the developers build an application by simply dragging and dropping different functions. The development kit is basically a framework for building an Ajax based application specifically for iPhone.

But the best news for developers may not be on SDK since we already know that but on the new iPhone that will be released by Ajax on July 11. Featuring 3G capabilities, Ajax based websites can be accessed faster. According to Jobs, the speed of 3G in iPhone could even reach Wifi speed so if what he says is true then we are up to a great mobile phone.

With the SDK and 3G on the iPhone, Apple will once again rock the world of Ajax based developers as well as consumers. Expect that in a few months, more and more developers will come out with applications built for iPhone – most of them on Ajax.
