AJAX-TipsAjax on Chandler
For two years and counting, the popularity of Ajax in various programs is increasing. From the time it was introduced in 2005, it has created events, conventions and created alliance unprecedented in the history of the internet. Now, we see various websites using the full power of the Ajax. Although there are some misses, we see opportunities coming out from everywhere. There’s one function though that we wished could be implemented more and more. Online collaboration has been with us for years and it seemed to be slower every time we log in to these websites. For example, the entries of Wikipedia.org are truly a useful website. However, information about a certain subject increases daily that certain information will take longer to load than less important things. If you transfer that situation to the business world, any collaborative work will result into a mess once the information or product gets more information. If Ajax will be implemented in collaborative softwares, the page will certainly load faster. Ajax will certainly lower the bandwidth requirement for the page to load. As if granting our deepest wish for a good software, one foundation called the Open Source Application Foundation has released a program who works just like that. Called the Chandler Project, this software is a collaborative software that lets its users share information privately. The good thing about the program is that it uses Ajax program to update the website in real time. One of the best features in this website is the e-mail interface. Even though the program is not the same MS Outlook, it’s one program that’s really user friendly. Even though configuring your e-mail is not the same as the Outlook or even harder sometimes, but that’s the only difficult part of the program. Chandler was even dubbed as the “Outlook Killer” as they are fully interactive and they can be shared to others at the same time. All you need to do is click on share and options will be available for you. As this will run in Ajax, the program is fully interactive with lots of documentation to help you with it. Because of our familiarity with Outlook, we tend to think it’s just the same. But surprisingly we can easily do run through the program because of the documentation and “how-to” at the same time. The idea of collaboration is not only in e-mail. They also provide a Server and Hub Sharing service. That means you can set up your own company e-mail and share the information easily to your user group. The Hub Sharing service will enable it’s users to make their programs run faster. With more hubs to help your program go through, you should expect these programs will work faster. Only time will tell if this Ajax based “Outlook Killer” will flourish. Even though it doesn’t have the popular marketing skills of Microsoft, it will be able to get a popular hold of the market. Whether you’ll be using Chandler for collaboration or just their e-mail service, it will clearly be very useful.
