CPAINT – Defunct Ajax Framework

Dojo, Prototype and GWT (Google Web Toolkit) are only some of the most popular framework for an Ajax based application.

These frameworks started out small with a group of developers dedicated to their work in easing the development of an Ajax based application for other developers.

They became popular because of the increasing support of other developers and adoption in developing websites and applications.

At any time, there are frameworks being released for public use which are usually for open use.

Unfortunately, not all frameworks end up like Dojo and Prototype (GWT became popular because, of course, it’s backed up by one of the internet giants) wherein they became an acceptable framework and continued to evolve for better adoption of new technologies.

One of those frameworks that unfortunately didn’t prosper is CPAINT. Development of this framework stopped in 2007 for varying reasons. But if you look at the bigger picture, the only reason why a framework could not go on is because development and support from other developers are there. It didn’t really matter if the framework is good because there are no followers and adaptors of the framework.

If you have checked this framework before, you’ll be impressed with the features it could provide. You can basically identify this framework with other remote scripting tools for an Ajax based application.

It is quite unfortunate that this framework is not currently developed because it can work like most of the Ajax based frameworks or even better. It can be used with powerful XML together with different remote scripting tools. CPAINT could even be applied for different browsers without any problem.

What makes CPAINT different from other frameworks is in its ability to launch multiple JavaScript functions at the same time. Most of the frameworks will launch a function with delays so that it could be easily implemented in the client side.

CPAINT believes that the web is strong enough to handle different functions so it will enable the developer to launch different functions at the same time. It is also among of the few functions that use JavaScript as its own tool in developing a framework.

Another unique function for CPAINT is its ability to adapt to other frameworks. It’s not mash-up in its entirety since it doesn’t admit other functions rather files from other non-CPAINT frameworks could be used the development of the application.

Personally, the demise on CPAINT is partly on the roots of the framework. CPAINT uses JavaScript in developing an Ajax based application. Although it’s positive that they have to be true to their form, being JavaScript from the start would somehow defeat the purpose since the reason why developers go for frameworks is that they don’t want to use JavaScript.

CPAINT may no longer be in development but if you’re interested, you can still use CPAINT for your small projects. It’s the best way to practice your recently acquired knowledge of JavaScript to build another application. The framework is flexible and could handle functions and apply them to the client side at the same time.
