Dojo 1.0 is an open source toolkit that can be launched in different browsers. Developers can download this toolkit for free and launch them in their own website. Initially it was perceived to be a very efficient toolkit for JavaScript. However when Ajax is finally acknowledged and hyped, Dojo 1.0 is continuously gaining more acceptance and usability. It has then stirred a number of updates with the latest version in 1.0 is better than ever.
The latest features of Dojo 1.0 include a highly efficient Dojo Offline. With this tool, you can easily create programs even though you are offline. You can easily build programs and adapt them to the website once it becomes online. There are more functions available since its library has been updated with more functions. Widget development is also easier with this toolkit. All data driven widgets will be easier to launch and release. This is made possible because the grid is now able to support more than 100,000 rows of data.
There are three parts inside the toolkit. First is Dojo Core as it provides better functionality to websites that uses Dojo. The Dojo Core could even provide functionality not found in popular websites. Next is Dijit – it’s a set of controls that can be launched in different languages. These set of controls can also be customized as the skins of the controllers could be changed. Lastly is the DojoX. This is where you’ll find the offline version of Dojo. Along with it are extensions for better functionality. The graphics, charts and other community extensions could also be launched right from this kit.
What makes this toolkit very attractive is because it’s an open-source toolkit. It has been worked on by thousands of developers and with the help of large companies; they were able to come out with something powerful. This latest update also complies with the requirements of the OpenAjax Alliance assuring it’s users that it could be launched with other frameworks. This mash-up capability is anther sweet addition to the already growing functionality of Dojo 1.0. Developers can freely download the toolkit and launch it in their website. The Dojo’s base program is only 25k so it could easily be downloaded and launched.
It’s already a common perception that an Open Source Ajax toolkit is only attractive to small and medium sized businesses. But Dojo 1.0 is an exception. With no less than IBM, AOL and internet giants helping with the development of this toolkit, users will be assured of a stable program and support that is always available for developers.
We don’t know where Dojo 1.0 could be going from here. Dojo is already working for its 1.1 just in time for the next Ajax Conference but we don’t know yet what it could do. But for now, the 1.0 version is more than enough for developers, big and small.
