AJAX-TipsDojo Receives Much Needed Boost From Various Companies
Just in time for the 1.0 release in October, Dojo Foundation, the developers of one of the most popular toolkit for Java and Ajax, received an update that would make its services to developers worldwide easier. This open source technology will receive the update in October and integrate them in time for the 1.0 release.
Even though an open source means everyone can create another version, it’s just not enough to create a good update for other developers.TurboAjax, also a leader in widget creation based on Ajax, has developed a high performance grid widget. And this widget was not developed by TurboAjax only; the company was commissioned by a number of open source companies to help with the development. SitePen, Mozilla Foundation, Nexaweb Technologies, Redfin, & SnapLogic has contributed to the development of the grid widget.
According to Sitpen’s Dylan Scheimann, “We determined that Dojo needed a new grid widget and rather than starting from scratch, we approached the TurboAjax Group about making its feature-rich grid open source and part of the Dojo Toolkit…his grid benefits SitePen's clients and is a great way to advance the Open Web.”
It’s going to be one powerful update for Dojo as the library will be updated to new tools. The initial release of the high performance grid of TurboAjax was just for the 0.4 version of Dojo.
However, with the support of the open source companies, the 1.0 released will have better features and updated version of the high performance grid of TurboAjax. TurboAjax is happy with the development,”We couldn't be more thrilled about moving TurboGrid to the Dojo Foundation. This is a unique opportunity where a collection of companies have come together to open source a quality component that is the key to building data-rich applications.” said Scott Miles, the representative of the TurboAjax group.
Mozilla of course, has to make a statement, “Mozilla and the Dojo Foundation share a commitment to advancing the Open Web…We're glad for the opportunity to join with other contributors to ensure that there are great tools for building accessible, robust applications for the web.” Said Mike Shaver, one of the known personalities in Mozilla.
Dojo, the recipient of the development, could never be happier according to Alex Russell the company president. “This is excellent code and an amazing show of generosity from the organizations who made it happen…This is the most capable Open Source web-based grid component available anywhere, and it will form the backbone of applications for years to come. We couldn't be happier that this donation is happening in time to include the Grid in Dojo's upcoming 1.0 release.”
What does this mean to the regular internet users? With better update especially on high performance grid, the loading of information will be faster and search for the specific names or programs will be easier. But since it will still be released on October, we’ll just let the developers have all the fun. Eventually we will be update on what are the new applications because of better toolkits.
