Enterprise 2.0 Pumped on Ajax

 Category: AJAX Tips Add Comment

Web 2.0 is already a reality. Even though the standard definition of the term is quite loose, we can safely say Web 2.0 has been transformed into a “user centric” world. The experience has created number of websites running solely from the content uploaded by users. And it has been years since the concept has been introduced, raking millions of revenues in the process. But if you transfer it in a business sense, you’re opening a whole new business world. Business is all about streamlining of ideas, proper channeling of skills and confidentiality of some of the most important information, even its own member shouldn’t be aware of. Business is still business and user based content could mean trouble for everyone. But some disagree on this idea. As the world shifts its attention from “what is written by the creator” to “what could be made by the spectators”, business should also emulate that function. The idea of Enterprise 2.0 can now be implemented in various business sectors. At least that’s Andrew McAfee, a Harvard Business School Professor thinks. He put out this idea during the professor’s Webcast with the Senior Vice President in Industries Business Unit for Oracle, Sonny Singh. It’s now the time of Wikis, Social Networks and Blogs to help the business environment. The revolutionary web technique of Ajax is also seen as a factor in helping the business world realize what should be done. McAfee already noticed this trend in most of the business companies, “When I educated myself a bit about it I saw that it has huge relevance to companies because it did just about the opposite of the technology I'd been studying…It did not impose anything on users. Instead it gave them a very, very free environment to work in and lets structures emerge over time." One of the good things about Enterprise 2.0 is the idea of collaborative work. Wikipedia has set a good example. Instead of imposing information to the users, the users are the ones responsible for the things written in the website. Little by little, the information is being updated by users. Self organization could be even realized with Enterprise 2.0 instead of a direction that’s closely monitored and blind with each other’s functions, Enterprise 2.0 will make all the contributors aware of the specific functions of each member of the group. This may or may not help but in good hands, this is always a clear advantage in any business company. So what’s Ajax role in this development. As business is a very fast paced world, it will need constant connectivity. If business will stick to the idea of requesting pages over and over again, there could be overload of bandwidth or it would cost the company thousands of dollars just to get simple information across to various users. Ajax is fully interactive, efficient and best of all, it’s not bandwidth hungry, thereby helping businesses in information sharing. Efficient use of Ajax would save them time, effort and money and it will help them realize Enterprise 2.0 easily.
