There was recent news that Google Spreadsheets is the more popular tool when compared to Google Docs. Although each of them presents a powerful Ajax feature, one has the edge over the other in terms of usability. So far, Google Spreadsheets has kept its promise to be safe and reliable online tool. As businesses are not anymore constricted in just one place, Google Spreadsheets now makes perfect sense as businesses will just have to go online and update their spreadsheets. Everyone authorized will have the ability to see the updated excel file. Although it’s not as good compared to MS Excel it does have its plus points. One of the companies who understand this concept and trend that online spreadsheets could be very useful is the software company called Extentech Inc. The company is a US based specializing in creating development tools solely for Java. Their tools are used only for business purpose and have received considerable review based on their productivity. Lately, the company announced of the release of another version of their product ExtenXL. Now on its 6.0 version, the tool promises to give more developers a free hand to create programs for business. But the updated version is not only for the specific industry but it focuses on a single online function of synching spreadsheets. But the ExtenXLS 6.0 is not an online spreadsheet in itself; Google is too powerful to be competed against in the first place. Instead, ExtenXLS 6.0 is an SDK (software development kit) that could give the developers the ability to create their own spreadsheet in their website. This is beneficial to businesses since they don’t have to use Google Spreadsheet instead, a spreadsheet will be activated in their website. Actually the SDK will not provide the Spreadsheet but it will be an API where the Spreadsheet function will be from different Ajax based websites such as Google Spreadsheets or Zoho spreadsheet files. Aside from receiving inputs from Ajax based websites, ExtenXLS 6.0 could also be integrated to these online services. The final output of ExtenXLS 6.0 is a JSON syntax making it possible for developers to return the information from the website to the Ajax based spreadsheets source. This will basically give the company website a powerful tool as it could access Ajax based spreadsheets online. Although it bases itself on other websites it still could be used efficiently on their own website. It still offers the same security as if you’re still using the online spreadsheets. The SDK can be fully integrated in the website by using simple Java codes instead of the very complicated Ajax. This services was explained none other than the CEO of the Extentech Inc., John McMahon. “With ExtenXLS 6, we go way beyond the basics of traditional spreadsheet functionality by creating the first and only Java spreadsheet SDK with native support for Web 2.0 technologies like JSON, XML/XSLT, spreadsheet collaboration, and version control. But we haven't left the basics behind... ExtenXLS 6 sports total control over charts, total control over images, and the dozens of enhancements, optimizations, and fixes that make ALL of our customers happier -- not just the Web2.0 pioneers.”
