AJAX-TipsGWT for Everybody
GWT
stands for Google Web Toolkit. The first version was released last May 2006. As of this writing, the toolkit is now on its 1.4 version. Development of this software is fast and developers are excited about this free toolkit that they can use. It’s basically a dream come true for programmers to simply things and increase productivity of their work.
What does it simplify? Ajax. Google is one of the industry giants who pioneered in the support of this web technique. This programming technique has developed their technique in introducing more than the usual services. It’s really a great stride for Google as they develop this type of toolkit. It’s a reflection of what they are doing with their own set of services.
If you have been using the internet for sometime, you might have bumped in some of the services of Google: gmail, Google earth, spreadsheet and their blog. These programs are one way or the other is governed by Ajax programming. There might not be any changes for computers with high speed internet but for those with the basic internet speed, the changes are quite clear. For example, in Google Earth, no need to use or wait for the internet to have all the responses available but it will pinpoint your preferred location as you’ll be loaded with images. The Ajax software will cut the need to constantly communicate to the server for more images. You’ll be able to see the images that you haven’t imagined possible 10 years ago.
The toolkit may not be something like the Google Earth but the functionalities that it will pose to your website is priceless. But remember that this is a programmer’s software. It’s ok to play with it, but you’ll be getting nowhere if you don’t research and learn what you have to do to figure it out. It could take months or maybe years but once you get the ability to develop specific functionalities to your website, you can even offer this kind of services to clients. It’s a potential money making ability that you have to acknowledge.
This toolkit uses Java as its main functional language. It’s the obvious choice since we want our websites to be very interactive with out losing or consuming too much bandwidth. It will probably take you a lot of time to write a specific code. As Google put’s it, “you spend 90% of your time working around subtle incompatibilities between web browsers and platforms”. With this software, it will basically cut off the required changes and tweaks so that it will be compatible to various platforms.
Before you download and use it, check for updates. Google is always developing something so that everyone will have a hand in developing something. We do not know why they are giving it for free but we appreciate that they give it out without a charge. So, get your latest version of the software, learn it and tweak things to your website. This could be the best tool you’ll every have.
