Increasing Accessibility through QFocuser

An Ajax based application is all about accessibility. All the trouble in building an application using this complicated development technique will be for nothing if users will not enjoy increased accessibility of the application. Oftentimes, developers will be too focused on Ajax that they forgot that users will ultimately become the judge of the application.

Users will not really care on how the application was built; all they need is an application that could cater to what they need. If the application that was built with JavaScript or Ajax will not be as interactive and accessible compared to HTML, then using the programming technique is for nothing.

For that reason, tools that increases accessibility in the Ajax based application is always welcome. A library named QFocuser has recently been published by Daniel Steigerwald. It’s a library that will help increase the accessibility of the online application.

This library focuses on certain keys in the users’ keyboard. Instead of clinging to mouse actions, the arrow keys as well as tab keys will be useful. Using the arrow keys and even hot keys is not that easy for developers since the mouse function already provide a lot of accessibility. But the option of integrating keyboard in using the application will always increase the interactivity of the application.

Widget Listener

Aside from increased accessibility, the application is expected to run faster with the help of the library. This will indirectly cause increase of processing time and ease of interaction with the users. This library will be able to do this by increasing the awareness of the widgets attached to the application.

Widgets are very useful to the application as they provide more functions without taking too much time for development. Through QFocuser, developers will be assured that the widget will have the ability to react to important events of the applications.

Element Focus

If you’re running a small application, there’s a big chance that the application relies its efficiency in one function. QFocuser could be a great addition in this scenario. Instead of sporadically spending the gadgets resources on other functions, QFocuser will direct most of the resources to the most important function the developer chooses. Although others will have lesser resources for data processing, the main function is being optimized. The application will eventually work as expected and even optimized for its specified task.

Library and Browser Agnostic

Although QFocuser is a library, it’s not a complete library wherein a developer could build an Ajax based application without any problem. There are still additional functions needed because QFocuser is very limited in function. But integrating this library to other libraries in JavaScript is no problem.

QFocuser could easily work with any library as the library is basically an improved JavaScript library for a specific task. Browser incompatibility is also not a concern as the library could work with major browsers even Safari.  QFocuser is a simple but highly effective library in JavaScript. Its features in accessibility as well as integration should be noted by developers if they aim to build a more effective application.
