JavaScript Obfuscators for Ajax Applications

An obfuscator is an essential tool for developing an Ajax based application. Developers would often toil for days just to build a highly efficient Ajax based application. Usually, they wanted to keep the source code a secret.

However, a source code can be easily extracted with simple browser plug-ins such as Firebug which means anyone could just steal parts of the code and implement them in their website without the knowledge of the original developer. This practice if often frowned upon by various developers. This type of source code extraction can be prevented through obfuscators.

Obfuscators will also protect the online application from different types of attacks as the application scrambles the source code. The source code will become impossible to read if they are run through an obfuscator. Piracy in JavaScript coding is very popular since this programming language is often difficult to write especially in developing an Ajax based application.

Here are some of the known obfuscators that could help you protect your applications from piracy and hacking.

• Thicket

This well-known obfuscator could be easily process the JavaScript coding with an output of an obfuscated source code. The alternate source code provided by Thicket could be run in any browser who can also read an Ajax based application.

The source code cannot be read by humans which prevents hacking and piracy of functions. Aside from scrambling the source code, it also compresses the source code which improves the download time of the website or the online application.

• Jasob

This type of obfuscator has the same function as Thicket but it has friendlier interface. There are additional options for compression compared to the simpler interface of Thicket. It can minimize the coding up to 70% which eases the speed in implementing the application in any browser.

This type of obfuscator is very particular in white spaces making it harder to read. Jasob also provides stats on the performance of the application especially on how well did it scramble the source code.

• Stunnix

This highly interactive application was specifically created for JavaScript. Additional .js components could be scrambled by Stunnix. It also provides additional protection for the user such as control in licensing and use of coding. The coding will still be read by most browsers. The main difference is the interface which makes interaction with the developer a lot easier.

Scripts Encryptor or ScrEnc

This type of obfuscator is relatively simpler compared to other applications. But it makes up on the interface which eases the developer’s work. It has two panes wherein the original coding is displayed and the obfuscated code is displayed on the other side.

• Jammer

One of the highly innovative obfuscator today is Jammer. It can adapt to most programming languages. It can also compress the coding of up to 50% which is very impressive considering JavaScript could be very difficult to configure. Its additional feature is scrambling C++ as well as C based applications.
