Load Testing Challenge

Developing an Ajax based application requires a lot testing. Among those tests that you need to implement in your Ajax based application is load testing which is basically to know the capacity of the application when multiple users try to use the application at the same time.

Load testing ensures that the application as well as the tools and servers that comes with it, would have the ability to handle the expected number of users. This could be done in different local applications as well as different online applications. But if you take a look at it more carefully, online applications need it more since there is a possibility that millions of users will be logging into a single application.

Traditionally, load testing could be easily implemented especially for non-Ajax based applications. Hundreds of tools are available online that could be used for developers. They could have the facts within minutes as they try to simulate their application through multiple and continuous access. The ease of testing is based on the fact that cache could be easily figured out by the application. This would then be relayed to the developer who will interpret the data.

But the story changes when you are dealing load testing to an Ajax based application especially the online applications. Unfortunately, the load testing tools that we have right now are not efficient in dealing with the Ajax based application.

It does not mean the load testing tools are not useful; it is just that the technology, in terms of testing tools, is not able to keep up with the latest trends in software development. Ajax may have been here for years now but the testing tools did not really develop as fast as the programming language.

Dealing with Browser Based Tools

There are however, different testing tools out there that could provide good load testing for Ajax based applications. However, their offering is basically on the application itself and the website or online application will be run on a software.

That means the performance of the application will be known right in the software. Although this would seem to be a good idea since you do not have a lot of effort in testing the Ajax based application, it would be a better idea if you deal directly with the Ajax based application as an online tool – you need to test it in a browser.

If you are looking for an efficient Ajax load testing tool, look for a tool that will provide browser based testing. Common sense will suggest that the best way to test your application is to use the online tools since your application will never be launched anywhere except in the browser.

Testing an Ajax based application is a little bit more challenging compared to non-Ajax applications. But this does not mean that testing the application is impossible. You need to have a powerful application that could provide a browser based simulation. This would be the only way to properly implement testing as your application will ultimately be launched online.
