Mobile Ajax: Why We Should Wait More

In iPhone, the reality of Ajax is a little bit smaller. With millions of Steve Job’s hand phones being sold in worldwide not to mention its cheap knock-offs, we are certainly getting a kick on what an Ajax could do to our mobile phones. But that is only in the advertisement page and generally the only thing these phones could do.

We always talk about Ajax’s efficiently in mobile phones because we see those slides that can be done with just a flick of a finger. But I think that is just it. Without any cool sliding design, iPhone might just look like another smart phone.

Ajax has been the new thrust and goal of our frameworks, languages, and platforms. Everyone is trying to be “in” this technique and those who are left out are just another Web 1.0 company doomed for failure. And mobile phones have been targeted as the new stage for development.

Although our computers and laptops do not just have enough of Ajax websites, Ajax’s technology is already present. Mobile phones on the other hand were not given the right attention it should have but it is picking up. The challenge in developing a truly “ajaxed” mobile phone is here.

Heading the group is Google’s Android with its open source personality. Coming in second are independent developers and relatively third is iPhones web-based Ajax applications. Each of them has their own ups and downs but since Android is an open-source platform, it naturally has the most supporters.

The rumored iPhone platform is coming up and based on recent news, iPhone will control those who can use the platform. If that rumor will prove to be correct, we might end up with another string of corporate applications for our mobile phones that are a little bit expensive for download.

Personally, the concern for developer is not much as thousands or even millions of developers out there who just wanted to have a small chuck of earning from the mobile frenzy.

The problem in mobile Ajax apparently is not on the developer’s side but on the manufacturer. Do not think that the problem is only on the mobile phone developer but generally about everything related to mobile phones. For one, the smart phones currently under development do not have the necessary features.

Think of a smart phone that does not have a Wi-Fi or 3G capability. All you have is a simple Bluetooth and infrared. Those who have Wi-Fi are a little bit expensive today and are very vulnerable to attacks.

Ajax based mobile phones still has a long way to go in mobile phone technology. Although you have the ability to build applications that does not require too much of a bandwidth, the practical hardware side of Ajax is not just there. If you are a consumer like me, do not get too excited regarding your prospects in the next mobile phone technology.

There is still a long way to go for the hardware to cope up with the things that are developing. For now, we just have to live with an Ajax-free world in our mobile phones.
