AJAX-TipsNew Mash up: Oracle's Siebel and Cisco's WebEx
Mash
ups are becoming a big trend today. And why not – it makes life a lot easier and more simple.
These two giants, Oracle being a leader in database technology, ERP and other business solutions software, and Cisco, a global leader in networking technology, are mashing up their on-demand services. This new mash up will connect together Oracle’s Siebel CRM On Demand offering running on Cisco’s WebEx Connect application platform. Some speculators say that this by Cisco in dealing with Oracle seems to be a means for Cisco WebEx for demonstrating that it has some traction with its composite application platform and will compete with head on with leaders in CRM such as Salesforce.
Cisco's WebEx Connect platform will give companies an on demand collaborative framework building business applications that run on the company’s MediaTone network. As the case would turn out, Oracle's Siebel CRM will be mashed up with WebEx’s Sales Center leading to way for an integration with social networking and communications capabilities via the Cisco's platform.
Modeled after Salesforce.com's AppExchange, the WebEx Connect's drawback at the moment is that it is conspicuously unavailable, or may to some degree, there is no way yet in getting to such place. But WebEx has made a claim though sometime in April this year that its distribution, integration and monetization platform will help to transform software “just as RSS, newsreaders and Google transformed the content world.” Shankar Iyer, vice president, strategic initiatives at WebEx, commented about the claim that “Much like there were platforms for consumer content publishers, we are a publishing platform for the next generation of applications.”
An article published at Infoworld reveas reveals that Josh Greenbaum, principal at Enterprise Applications Consulting said that there is a lot more that can be done with WebEx's ability to "get to the desktop." "The fact that WebEx has a platform for SaaS delivery is one of the best kept secrets," said Greenbaum further.
It can also be read that the DMNews story has an articles that says “Salespeople will be able to use the Oracle application throughout the sales process for marketing, tracking and closing on campaigns. CRM on Demand by Oracle also helps users demonstrate, present and forecast sales processes. The application provides sales management tools, sales dashboards, forecasting capabilities and real-time process management. Oracle Siebel also tracks WebEx meetings and prospecting activity automatically, generating integrated reports.”
As a backgrounder, a mash up is an application for the web that enables combination of several data coming from more than one source into a single integrated tool. An good example of a mash up is the use of Google Map's cartographic data in adding location information to real-estate data from a website like Craigslist. By mashing up, the website can create a new and distinct web service that was not originally envisaged by either source.
Mash ups are everywhere today and even personal websites and social networking webpages are full of mash ups.
