Pagecasting

We are already familiar with the term “podcasting” as it revolutionized the Web 2.0 experience. We used to be content in reading the articles created by users. They could be entertaining, degrading, plain crazy or just how lasagna can be your best friend when you’re really down and out. Then our eyes just simply got tired of reading…then we proceeded to admit the idea of youtube.com.

Instead of reading lots and lots of rants and recopies; why we don’t watch them instead? Video bloggers tried to sweep the internet with their daily problems (remember lonelygirl15) or just goofy uploads on how they can ride the bike really fast and crash really hard. Eventually, user uploads has to be taken to the next level.

We wanted to have more so the idea of podcast and vidcast was created to entertain millions of people who stayed online and download their files so that we can watch them in our iPods. Now another “casting” is trying to crawl into our daily internet lives and it’s called “pagecasting”.

To understand the idea of pagecasts, let’s take a look at some things that you do which are related to pagecasting. Your my.yahoo.com page your personal page in msn and your igoogle page are some of the basic samples of pagecasting. You personalize the website. You can edit the location of a certain update, you change the color background….everything is up to your taste. But that’s really personal since we need to get a user name and password to let other see what’s on your page.

On the other hand, pagcasting is more public. It’s like sharing what you have to everyone so that they will look at it. So where does Ajax come in? Since Ajax is more about personal experience, the ability to create some widgets come into place. When we tried to create some pages, we were thinking of what’s inside and what will be the color.

But Ajax takes them to the next level. Instead of getting what you want, why not place all your favorite websites and let the people know about it? Those sounds simple but try creating a website that doesn’t only tell the people what sites that you love; but you can even resize them to your specification.

If you want a concrete example of this experience, go yourbubblez.com. It’s a personalized webtop that you can resize and the best part is, each box can feature ANY website that you like. Some will just give you widgets but not this site; you can practically key in your favorite site and have it there anytime you sign in.

Developers are scrambling to create these widgets and you can also create something on your own. There are blogger, flickr and thousands of widgets that you can use so that people can just be updated to whatever you’re doing. So checkout pageflakes and yourbubblez for the best of pagecasting technology. But also check out other pagecasting sites. It’s one way of best way of communicating to the ever growing internet community.
