AJAX-ToolsRich Text Editors for Ajax
Rich text editors are important tools for developing websites of different languages including Ajax. Through rich text editors, developers would be able to reconfigure websites easily. These applications usually come small but with a lot of features that will ensure that the website could fully function and even integrate additional features later.
Here are some of the rich text editors that could be used in building Ajax based applications. Although they could also be implemented in other programming languages, they are efficient in handling JavaScript to properly implement Ajax based applications.
• YUI – Yahoo’s rich text editor is more than just an editor. Coming in with two forms for easy configuration, developers could have simpler editors for smaller websites or the larger form for complicated websites. The support for plug-ins in YUI is also available and implementation is very easy. But YUI’s rich text editor is a victim of corporate structure. Because it is handled by a large company, it may not have the attention it should get. But still, YUI is one of the powerful rich text editors that any developer should consider.
• TinyMCE – The latest version of TinyMCE has apparently addressed most bugs but not everything. Problems with whitespace and functions in different browsers still exist. With that said, TinyMCE should still be considered by developers especially those who are looking for a rich text editor that could do simple functions effectively.
Another concern most developers would face when building a website with TinyMCE is that it is never tiny. Unless you have a powerful server that could support TinyMCE, better look for smaller editors.
• FCKEditor – One of the oldest editors in the industry, FCKEditor withstood the challenges of time by constantly updating the editor to conform to the industry. The support for this type of editor is strong. Server side support for FCK is also available not just in simple configuration but in different languages as well. Because of different updates, it has somehow become a language of its own.
• FreeRichTextEditor – This free editor is a lightweight and highly effective rich text editor. Support for this editor continuously grows and would even improve because of the support it has received from different developers. Developers could use this to code, design or just preview the application.
• WidgEditor – This is a highly remarkable rich text editor from Cameron Adams. Even though it is being developed by one man, you can expect a lot from this rich text editor. This is often used for simple websites. The best part of WidgEditor is your ability to read the JavaScript that powers the rich text editors and you can also know the actual interaction of the functions in your application.
These are only some of the rich text editors that you can consider for your website. Most of them are small enough to be used in different websites but with the ability to integrate plug-ins for better interaction.
