Runtime Exceptions

Runtime exceptions could easily frustrate JavaScript and Ajax developers since these errors were able to interact with the system but hit a snag because something is wrong with the function or data added. This can easily happen since data interaction happens in many online JavaScript and Ajax based application. The data offered might have the same format at first but it comes with a small detail that could change the JavaScript interpretation. Instead of moving forward with the transaction, JavaScript throws a runtime exception to inform the developers that the transaction will not go through.

Creating an Error Object

Fortunately, runtime exceptions could be dealt with through Error Objects. This type of command will inform JavaScript on what specific actions that should be done in case an error happens. The browser will then have additional options on what to do with the data.

It might be a possibility that JavaScript will use additional functions to deal with the data for better interpretation. Error Object could be integrated with major browser in modern version including IE. Although an Error Object have to be implemented in sensitive functions, this extra effort is done to ensure that the application works as expected.

The Syntax

Error Object is composed of a primary syntax and the supplement function in case the primary will not work.

The primary syntax is composed of two interesting functions: try and catch. They work together in the syntax which will provide impressive data for the browser.

These two functions are integrated to the evaluation function of JavaScript. But there’s a prerequisite in the application wherein they should create an evaluation JavaScript code that can be called automatically. When the application detects an error, it will launch the “try” function that could call the evaluation code.

If the JavaScript code that evaluates the data returns with an error, the second function (catch) will be implemented. This second function will basically do what its name suggests: catch the error code so that JavaScript could return with the prompt. At this point, the client-side will pop-up with an error code informing the user that the function will not go through.

The supplement function is named “finally.” This function is created to end the transaction in runtime error. However, its function is not just limited to error clean-up. It can be added in other functions that do not end up in error so that the application will go through. The “finally” function comes with a standard function that will be executed no matter what the outcome of the Error Object.

Customizing Messages

The unique ability of JavaScript in dealing with errors is that it can provide additional data to the user in case something is wrong with the application. The error codes could be integrated with the prompt so that users could inform developers about the error.

Runtime exceptions should never be ignored. If the developer wishes to have a powerful application, errors should be expected and preparations to deal with the said errors should be created. Error Objects could deal with runtime exceptions and provide data to users if an exception occurs.
