Christmas is fast approaching and everyone is bracing for the fast paced and often crazy shopping spree. Shopping malls are increasing their personnel to cater to the large influx of shoppers. Shoppers on the other hand are already looking for the next perfect gift they could give to their friends and family.

Websites are also beefing up their inventory and developers are tightening the screws in their online system, making it durable and crash proof for the Christmas season. It’s the time of year that people wanted to buy something and will get it at any rate. Most of the time, there will be more first time online shoppers during Christmas season as local stocks of popular toys and gifts run out. Website owners have to create a good first impression to these shoppers to ensure return business. Going with this demand is Saletastic.com. Administrators and owners of this website are based in Chicago Illinois and their main products in their website are coupon codes for different websites. Saletastic.com categorizes most of coupon codes found in the internet and displays the shortcut online. Once the customers click on the specific code, a pop-up will show up showing the coupon code and at the same time the page will go to the website where the coupon code could be applied. A simple site but very useful for online shoppers who wants more than a product. So why did Saletastic.com arrived in our blog? Saletastic.com has just added a new feature in their website called the Ajax coupon widget. It’s an Ajax based widget that can used in four popular browsers: IE 6.0 or later, Firefox 1.0 or later, Opera 8.5 or later and Safari 3.0 or later. The shortcut to the widget is found right on top of their website and all the users got to do to access this page is just to click on the shortcut. According to the website creator, Salima Mirza, “By providing a cross browser AJAX widget, we allow shoppers to experience a more lively and interactive rich client interface, and save money at the same time.” The widget will only populate the left side of the browser. It’s small but it’s proven to be very efficient. There are three tabs: New, Popular and Find where a search tool is provided. When a user clicks on a website, there are two possible actions that will happen next. First, the website where the coupon is offered with the discount already activated; second, the website will pop-up and the widget will display the coupon code that could be used. Mirza properly outlined the role of Ajax in this widget and how it was developed. “With the advent of AJAX, we wanted to use the technology to provide a more interactive interface to our website. We looked a lot of different AJAX APIs and ended up utilizing jQuery which we found to be very lightweight and robust in functionality.” Personally, the widget is too simplistic but it does its function really well. It will surely enhance the user experience for this Christmas shopping season as they look for the best gift with great discounts.
