The Partnership of Layer 7 and Nexaweb

Layer 7 specializes in providing SOA security gateways. On the other hand, Nexaweb is one of the leaders in selling Web 2.0 softwares. It was recently announced that Layer 7 will work together with Nexaweb as the provider and the seller respectively.

Nexaweb will concentrate in selling the key product of Layer 7, which is more security in RIA (Rich Internet Applications). This product is specially created for Enterprises who uses these type of applications not only for the internet but in their intranet application as well. The product is named Web2SOA – a combination of expertise of two companies.

Web2SOA maybe is a good product if you take a look at the recent development in today’s rich internet applications. Flash, Java and most especially Ajax applications have been under fire because of the lack of security that are implemented on various service. Ajax in particular runs programs in the server-side which means it could be very dangerous if someone actually penetrates the server using the very product it implements.

For businesses, security of information is very important as they are not only protecting themselves but also their clients. Business will always have this in mind if they are using Ajax based applications. It’s not that the RIA will be too flashy, but the use of codes in Ajax applications is quite complicated that it naturally has their own loopholes. Everything has to be considered and for the sake of faster transaction, there are things that are being left out.

Unfortunately, security is not a high priority of the creation of Ajax. That’s where Web2SOA comes in. Once the product is launched in certain sites, it will look into all of the aspects of the Web 2.0 application. For example, most of the Ajax creations take a look at the HTTP, Java and the PHP aspect of the software while the XML could be left out because of the implementation of the website.

Web2SOA takes a look at all the stages of transactions and assures the security of these sites. Because of the proper application, not only customers and users of the website will be granted security, they will also experience Web 2.0 applications at its best.

The product itself is good however, it’s still a fact that the company doesn’t have these type of programs could be the big negative side of the company. Even though each company that will implement Web2SOA will have a free hand in what interface they want, customization will cause the product to be implemented half heartedly.

Layer 7 even admitted that “slight flaw” of the product. The slight flaw could mean a little delay of the implementation of the program since it will need some time to take a look at most of the parts of the program. If the program is not fully integrated, half hearted security is almost the same as no security. We’ll see after some time how Web2SAO works out in its sales and of course it’s appeal and use to the present market.
