Unauthorized Application Get’s the iPhone Makers Squirm

When Apple said the future of iPhone is in Ajax, these guys are not joking. But the way things are going for iPhone, Ajax may not be the future of iPhone but the exact reality. iPhone was released to the public in June 29, 2007 and has reached more than a million sales. It will be launched in November in UK and in Asia at the beginning of the year.

With the way things are going, the sales of iPhone might not see any wane in sales for years. Once it was released, iPhone encountered a lot of hacking and unlocking (iPhone is locked to AT&T for two years) was done in a few days. Steve Jobs is not ok with it so their planning on software updates to ensure that they devices will never be unlocked. But while they’re trying to figure out how to deal with this concern, another one showed up.

Frankly, we can really see this coming like the unlocking of the iPhone. Ajax has become the reality of iPhones as developers from all over the world came up with simple, but very useful applications that can be run in iPhone.

There are even frameworks and toolkits released to aid the developers create a program specifically for the use of iPhone. It could be applied to other mobile devices but since iPhone is such a cool product to mess with, it’s undeniable that this mobile gadget will be the target of numerous hacks and unauthorized programs.

Even in AjaxWorld conference that was just recently concluded, there are sessions that explain the framework and development tools that could be used in an iPhone. iPhone of course, is not OK with that.

As unlocking the phone to other networks will solicit some squirmy faces from iPhone it’s just the same as the unauthorized tools installed to their phones. It’s just logical for this company to oppose this kind of acts since any program could be written if they are assigned to the right person with the right knowledge.

They could create Office productivity tools, more movie players worst, other tools could be installed where P2P sharing could be involved and removes the use of future iTunes to be installed in the program. As of now iPhones only allows web based programs to be run in their Safari Web Browser and that’s it. You may be able to access various websites and use their program but you can never download them.

As Apple strongly puts it in their own words, “Apple strongly discourages users from installing unauthorized unlocking programs on their iPhones. Users who make unauthorized modifications to the software . . . violate their iPhone software license agreement and void their warranty.”

If you’re a developer you might want to crank up the program your creating for iPhone. For users, make sure that the program you downloaded is stable and secure. Apple will not handle those losses caused by already modified iPhones. For developers, just be patient as iPhone might be sanctioning some groups to create programs (hopefully). If their prophecy of 10 million sales will come true, there’s a lot of money that could be generated by developers.
