Web 3.0?

Year after year, there are new technologies or developments not only in present softwares but also in hardwares that we don’t know what will be the eventual change that will happen in the next few years. With the changes we are experiencing today, the things that we though impossible today could actually be realized in the next few years.

Just like a few decades ago, it’s really ridiculous to think that a thousand songs could actually fit in a device that’s as big as the palm of our hands. We have got to thank the creative programmers, developers and the architects who made this all happen. In the internet, we used to enjoy a simple chat in IRC in a DOS-like interface.

Now the internet is experiencing the surge of Web 2.0 and instead of encoding our information, we can even introduce ourselves live to any person in the world. Even though we can’t verify if the internet’s present technology will be at its peak, we are sure that the best that we can do in the internet world is getting better.

Even when Web 2.0 is its peak, there are already talks about Web 3.0. But before we actually go to the Web 3.0 let’s go back a bit and see what Web 2.0 is all about. For starters, the best thing Web 2.0 has given to the world is the content that we can find in the cyberspace.

Instead of looking at official encyclopedias and definition, we are now in the age of Wiki – an age where knowledge is not generated by the information from official documents but information that are freely given and shared in the internet. Web 2.0 also ushered the age of user generated content. Blogs, YouTube, Wiki and even a simple comment has become part of the technology.

All of the information that you’ll be looking for are already given by someone, somewhere. This worldwide collaboration has also ushered the technology called Ajax as a very powerful programming technique. This technique is so complex that companies have to band together to make them work.

So now what is Web 3.0? There is much debate on what is the next big thing on the internet. But there are of course speculations. One of those speculations is the development of the internet as becoming a very powerful web-based desktop application. Instead of using the present hardware, you just have to log-in in the internet and use the web based office applications.

Internet 3D is also being forecasted and artificial intelligence is coming to an age. And Ajax will be the leading program of these systems. As the world is becoming more complicated daily, this technique will be the sole program that could integrate everything without compromising the users along the way. Mash-ups will even be used extensively. Web 3.0 may be a bit far from realization and we are not sure what will happen there exactly. But with Ajax and mashups, we just might have the tools to realize them faster than we thought.
