How do I quickly view XML files?

I have an XML file with a reasonably complex structure. I just want to get a report of its contents in a wysiwig sort of way, so that I can take out some of the field names and descriptions for a manual I'm writing. If I import the XML file into Excel, I get the sort of thing I need, but there seems to be lots of empty columns which is confusing. Is there some basic free tool I can use to get the data from the file into, say, MSWord-like tables? I know I could use XSL, but I don't have time to learn it at the moment. It's the tree view I have trouble with. I'm hoping there is some sort of tool that can represent the data as a set of nested tables.getting closer with this:http://www.stylusstudio.com/xsllist/...post30680.html

Text Pad 4 is very useful. Ive recently worked on XML and found that Text Pad helped me alot. Its not a flat structure its all hierarchical.

have you tried your browser? firefox and ie works quite well (on linux you can try using firefox too...) and it's also possible to edit it with dreamweaver cs3 if you want to spend 800$
