Points of Interest Data (POI) in XML or FTP for USA?

does anyone know where i can download POI data for North America in either FTP or XML form. Looking for data sets including museums, shopping, parks recreation etc to integrate with maps for a website development project. Data needs to be Geocoded with name, address, (short description, image would be nice).
