I don't know anything about ajax or whatever, but there are already a lot of online chess games as it is.

I know there are a lot of AJAX based games and chess games for that matter but if your after the experience and the ability to build and customize the game you want then go for it!

I don't want to keep going but as an example their are loads of PHP/MySQL based blog systems and content management systems but I still build my own so I can build it to my specifications.

And it gives you some pride when you can say you built it
