Flash Player Problem?

My laptop (Xp) had experienced the blue screen of death several times. The weird thing is that no retore point is found everytime I tried to recover (left more than enough memory for recovery). This happens everytime I use the Flash player plug-in on IE. People had pointed to hard drive as a source of problem. So I went out a bought a new one. However, the laptop is showing bad signs (haven't crashed) including weird hard drive noise and unexpeted change in user setting. Not even updating the driver seem to help.So what is the source of all these problems?
