AJAX-Tips
It’s hard to admit but I was one of the guys that were really excited when iPhone was presented by Steve Jobs. The phone is truly revolutionary as it took the iPod Video (now iPod Classic) to the next level. The rumors were true that a phone that would also function as an iPod will actually exist. Although 8G is a small memory compared to the 80GB maximum capacity the iPod Video once had, it’s next big step for something bigger. But what made me even excited is when I learned that the iPhone actually runs in Ajax. Since it can access the net via Wifi (where’s the 3G?) it should be able to access Ajax based websites. Naturally, iPhone should be able to use Ajax based websites. Apple made it even better as they recommended Ajax based sites that are friendly in iPhone. Since that time, everyone is now scrambling to create the next big iPhone software. Although it doesn’t allow software to be installed, the idea accessing your iPhone through a wifi network made iPhone one of the hottest gadgets in the market to be developed through online software. In reaction to the clamor of the public, a convention was held by developers around the country. The convention though was just a side event as it was done after the AjaxWorld Conference in California last September. The convention was a great success as it opened the doors for different developers as the technical specifications of iPhone was explored giving the developers an idea how to create iPhone friendly programs. Following the success of the side event, a second event, now bigger and solely dedicate to iPhone will be happening in New York. The best developers in the industry will come together in New York on March 18-20, 2008 to discuss the development of iPhone. Its impact on the mobile industry, software development and even Ajax web toolkits will be discussed in this two day event. But the main focus on the event will be on the iPhone SDK (Software Development Kit) which should be released the month before the AjaxWorld iPhone Convention. As Steve Jobs has announced the release of the SDK, it’s going to be frantically sought after by different developers. Since there are more than a million iPhone users already waiting for the next biggest software in their mobile phones. This event is not only good for developers but also for mobile phone users especially the iPhone. As the iPhone SDK will be released when the event will happen, it will be under serious scrutiny from the top developers in the country. On that event, developers will know how iPhone SDK pit against the already popular Android of Google. With this, developers will have the first hand information on how will iPhone SDK change or level the field of software development. The two day event in New York will be chaired by the editor in chief of the iPhone Developer’s Journal Kevin Hoffman. The deadline for Papers of Developers is on December 7, 2007. A week after that, we’ll know what will be happening in March.
