iPhone Oks 3rd Parties..but with Limitations

The mobile world is in frenzy once again as the iPhone has put their foot forward for third party softwares. Even though it has been said that iPhone is allowing software as long as they are web-based (or can be run in Safari), we really don't have any proper guidelines on creating the 3rd party software for the product.

Creators of third party application are particularly interested in iPhone because of its immense popularity. We may have more powerful mobile phones in the market, but iPhone stands out among its competitors because of the features it can offer. Plus the hype it created, it undoubtedly become increasingly popular.

The lack of third party softwares makes it a very wide open market for developers. iPhone has now released the document for HIG or Human interface guidelines. It's a document for developers to read if they want to create something for iPhone. To sum it up, here they are.

1. Should only be web-based
2. Limit the applications only to HTML CSS and Ajax.

Obviously, our interest is on the second point which is the application for Ajax. Too bad softwares that could be installed in an iPhone are not allowed as lots of developers are scrambling to create one. And there are a lot of these types of software floating around the internet.

Bad news is Apple will not fix your phone in case something happens. If you're that good, you can always install these programs at your own risk. For now, no money could be put forward on developers interested in creating native (those that should be installed) softwares. They might have to crack their brains again for profitable web-based softwares. Ajax should do well in this type of environment that was set by Apple.

We have been accepting the fact that Ajax will greatly be conducive in the environment of mobile phones because it will not require a lot of softwares installed in the hardware. This will place a lot of web-based companies who will offer web-based mobile services in a lot of challenge in the years to come.

Even though the mobile industry will give us stronger hardwares, it's nothing compared to the powerful hardwares in our computers. That means, in order for Ajax to properly run in mobile phones, companies have to develop a powerful program wherein the response/request protocol will not only be “revised” the burden of giving information fast will be on the server.

For users, we just have to wait a little bit more before we completely experience Ajax not only in our iPhones but in other mobile phones as well. We have to admit, iPhone will set the tone for Ajax in Mobile phones so take it as a pause and enjoy the web based Ajax sites on Safari...if you can find on that will properly run. Plus you need to be connected to the internet at all times to have the Ajax program run.
